"Human rights in the sense of human solidarity have created & new universal and equal language going beyond racial, gender, ethnic or religious boundaries. That is why we consider it a doorway to dialogue for people of all socio-cultural groups and all ideologies ." (Munir, December 8, 1965 - September 7, 2004). Munir Said Thalib or best known as Munir, one of Indonesia's most respected and courageous human rights activists, passed away on September 7, 2004. The suspicion of foul play began when he was reported to have died on the Garuda Indonesia aircraft flight number GA-974 taking him to the Netherlands, where he had intended to study for a master's degree in humanitarian law at Utrecht University on a scholarship sponsored by the Dutch government. Munir was only 38. Later the result of the autopsy stating that Munir had died from arsenic poisoning, seems to have confirmed the suspicion that someone had intentionally killed Munir. |
