The name of Hippocrates takes us back to the beginnings of the Western tradition of medicine and to the Greek codification of the first tenets of profesional ethics. But the character of the oath itself, which bears the name of Hippocrates, is still limited by an initial idolatrous invocation and by certain worries about the secret of the transmission of the doctrine and the practice of the profession.
