THis is the question that we sak ourselves when we read the provocative title given to my paper. Can society becaome depressed in the samme way that a person does, who doubts himself, withdraws from society, and is sad and melancholic? We can advance a reply: it is people who get depressed, not society, which, indeed, is the image of individuals who go to make it up.
