Transmissible disease have periodically been the first cause of death in populations until very recent times. Of these, the so-termed epidemic diseases (fundamentally: bubonic plague, smallpox, dysentery, yellow fever, cholera, influenza) have broken out periodically in populations, causing rapid and very high levels of death, without political institutions (states, local government) being able to impose other preventive measures than isolation and the collapse of interpersonal communication and communical between peoples.
