Isi artikelSouth Africa is both a first and a third world country, with a total population of some 35,000,000 people of whom 26,496,625 are black, 4,949,000 are white, 3,127,000 are coloured (mixed races) and 928,000 are Asians. There are many different religious orientations, political affiliations, cultural norms and contrasting levels of education and literacy. Means of communication are complicated by the number of different languages spoken by these peoples. All these facts have contributed to problems experienced in diagnosing HIV infection and AIDS.
