Isi artikelwe are living in a time in which medicine , and particulary genomic medicine, is moving from intense, crisis-driven intervention to predictive medicine. With respect to screening entire populations or specific subgroups for genetic information, it is becoming possible to target interventions to individual patients that may preventthe onset or progression of disease and, generally, improve their health. Populations screening is already commonly used to indentify persons with certain Mendelian disorders prior to the appearance of symptoms and thus prevent illnesses-one such example is the testing for phenylkotonuria in newborns.
