The definition of health is determined by sociocultural elements and thus varies according to the differing social and philosophical systems (Weltanschauungen). The idealistic definition of health formulated by the World Health Organization in 1963 is well known: "Health is a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease and infirmity."
