Isi artikelProf Gajdusek stated that every man, whether ill or healthy, wants to have his human dignity respected: we judge a physician by how he respects the human dignity of his patients. He observed that the reversal of the pattern of mortality in the last century, as pointed out by Professor Bergstrom in the preceding session, had been mainly the result of sanitary and civil engineers and politician providing clean water, improved sewage disposal, roads for rapid transportation and the refrigeration of a stable, year-round food supply. Epidemic diarrhea had been the great infant killer in previous time.
