Last November I had a talk with Nakamura Kunio, who was my predecessor as president of Matsushita Electric Industrial and is now chairman of the company. When I set up the appoitment, I did not give a reason, but at the meeting I got right to the point, telling him: "I've decided to change the name of the company to Panasonic and to use this as the unified brand name for all our products. I'm committed to seeing the unification of our corporate brands through, no matter what problems may arise, and I hope you'll support the move."
