Isi artikelThis paper discusses metaphors in the Mandailing language based on the classification of semantic human perception (Haley's model) and pragmatic approaches found in traditional ceremony Mangupa. The Mandailing Society's (MS) knowledge on semantic human perception is very significant. The category mostly found for animates shows that the members of the MS help one another for good purposes. The being category indicates the MS's curiosity on abstract things, the object category means that the MS must be responsible to the necleus family and to the extended one, cosmos, terrestrial, the living and human category shows that there are some sides that may not be opposed in life. The last category, energy and substance, mean that the members of the MS must not only think of themselves but also the others.
