One potential method of effluent treatment is the use of ponds or raceways stocked with plants that act as natural biofilter by removing waste nutrients. This study examined the potential of Gracilaria sp to improve effluent water quality. Therefore, the objective of this experiment is to understand seagrass (Gracilaria sp.) in reducing Nitrate (NO3) in water through filtration process. Laboratory measurement indicated that Gracilaria sp has the ability to reduce organic substance as Nitrate in see water up to range 0.1219 - 0.1806 ppm/ days. Application of Gracilaria in waste water filtrattion is expected to be an alternative in shrimppond waste water treatment.
