I take the title of this introduction from the first paper in this number of the Journal of Medicine and Philosophy. Philosophy matters to medicine generally, and clinical ethics in particular, because Philosophy is essential to both the theoretical and practical aspects of clinical ethics and therefore of medicine, as the papers in this number powerfully demonstrate.
