This research is aimed at finding out the contribution of linguistic competence and home environmental toward reading comprehension skills in Indonesian texts especially in Junior High Schools in Sleman, Yogyakarta. A number 0f 338 students from 9 schools are choosen as samples using multiple-stage stratified random sampling technique. The instruments were in the form of a test and questionnaire. Data collected were analyzed using descriptive and regression analyst. Result of multiple-regression analysis shows that there was a significant combined effect of home environmental and school environment on reading skills in Indonesian texts with a contribution of 22.80%. This research can be used to improve th quality of teachers as well as the parental involvement in facilitating and motivating the children to read.
