Only 500 hundred metres from the motorway, but difficult to find – only 73 metres above sea level, on what would be the banks of the Calder if the valley had not run out of enthusiasm – lies South Parade Primary School in Ossett. It is the result of an amalgamation of infant and junior schools this year and has a new head appointed for the purpose. A new building is on the cards, which might (correctly) suggest to the reader that the present one is nothing to write home about.
