Isi artikel
This article about a school in Glasgow (South Lanarkshire authority) is in two parts. The first part was written by the Headteacher Carol Howarth, in collaboration with Allison Closs of Edinburgh University, and first published by the Scottish School Ethos Network. It is a powerful story of the development of an ethos in which pupils learn to be responsible for themselves and care for each other and their school environment, and of the impact on learning and achievement. The second part results from an editor’s visit to see the school and meet pupils; an interview with the head tells more about school leadership and development which is driven by social values and a strong commitment to the pupils and local community. Finally, a group of pupils give their own views on ethos and achievement.
