Isi artikelTHe faculty of medicine Universitas Kristen Indonesia (FM-UKI) implemented a new curriculum called competence-based curriculum (CBC) recently, using a problem based leraning (PBL) approach. In conjunction with this, Task Force for HIV & AIDS of FM-UKI established a module for HIV & AIDS. Prior to incorporate the module to be core curriculum, a one-month try out was conducted. Seventy six students from 8th to 9th semester were involved in this try out, divided into 2 intervention groups, consisting of 19 and 28 students, and one control group with 29 students. Tutorial sessions were done every Monday and Thursday. Short lectures focusing on important and recent issues with respect to the objective of the scenarios were given everyday except Monday and Thursday. Students took 3 written test i.e. pre-, post-test, and a final test. At the end, an objective structures Clinical examination (OSCE) was carried out for intervention groups. Students also evaluated tutors, modules and the learning process. THe results showed that there were significant differences in pre- and post-test between intervention group and control group (63±5.7 to 76±5.8 vs 61±7.8 to 66±6.5, p<0.001). With regards of OSCE's performance, most of the students performed well at Station I (80% ± 11.5%), and less favorable at station II and IV (39% ± 17.4%; 23.8% ± 11.5%, respectively) THe total score for general performance is 53.8 ± 9.1. Students favored the new learning approach of HIV & AIDS and this also shown by their examination result compared to control group. But, improvements in facilities are still needed.
