There is now global agreement that education is the key to success for nations that seek to succeed in the new millennium. No matter what view is taken about alternative forms of schooling there is no doubt that there will be a place for the primary school, however conceived. The primary principalship ought to be the premier leadership position in schools. Yet a decreasing number of people are attracted to it. This presentation will draw on an international study to show what needs to be added to the role and what needs to be subtracted from the role to achieve the vision.
