Isi artikel
History has a responsibility to represent the story of humankind and correct three hundred years of developing negative attitudes towards black people while giving white people an unrealistic image of themselves as superior. The majority of respondents believed that black history has been neglected, often seen as insignificant by policy makers. A small number believed that black history is already included in the curriculum under non-European civilisations. Ninety-seven percent of replies agreed that the time has come to deconstruct the myths and prejudices handed down through generations. The emergence of social history has brought about stimulating challenges to orthodoxies and history taught in schools needs to be revised to reflect this. Black history should now be given proper place in the education system through a more balanced curriculum, presenting a variety of perspectives and drawing out competing arguments.
