The relationship between Catholic physicians and the teaching authority of the Church is inquired into through an exploration of the special relationship which exists between medicine and religion. Evolution of the relationship between Church subject and Church authority, with a view to a correct interpretation of the relationship between the Catholic physician and the Church, is characterized by the healthy, moderate authonomy recognized by the Second Vatican Council.
