As a contemporary field of scholarship, philosophical bioethics is only a few decades old. Yet throughout much of that time, the issues into which it inquires have garnered considerable attention from the press. Indeed, the field largely emerged through the need to look more carefully at issues of deep public import and controversy. Three examples are particularly prominent.
