This is the first publication devoted to exploring the relation between the philosophy of David Hume (1711–1776) and important topics in bioethics, philosophy of medicine, and medical humanities. The contributors to this volume discuss how Hume’s work informs current discussions about the moral standing of animals, justice, suicide, sympathy, advocacy, duty, value theory, and professional codes. As the authors show, bioethics, medical humanities, and philosophy of medicine resonate with topics upon which Hume wrote so effectively.
