Isi artikelThere have been extraordinary advances in the interpretation and application of Kant's moral philosophy in the past twenty-five years or so, especially since the 1975 publication of Acting on Principle by Onora O'Neill (then nora Nell), much but not all of this work being inspired by John Rawls's teaching of Kant as well as by his use of Kant in A Theory of Justice. The work of interpretation, reconstruction, and application that has been done by O'Neill, Barbara Herman, Thomas Hill, Allen Wood, and others surely equals in interest and importance that done in recent years on any of the great yhinkers of the past in any area of philosophy, and the work collected in Christine Korsgaard's Creating the Kingdom of Ends belongs squarely in this impressive company. Perhaps what most distinguishers her work from that done by any of the others I have mentioned is the concentration of her attention on Kant's attempt to derive the fundamental principle of morality and its several formulations from the very concept of practical reason itself.
