Isi artikelChristine Korsgaard's Creating the Kingdom of Ends presents a rewarding but difficult task for the commentator. The book consists of thirteen essays originally published between 1983 and 1993, seven of which are concerned directly with the interpretation of Kant's moral and political philosophy, while the other six examine a variety of issues in moral philosophy and metaphysics from a broadly Kantian standpoint. Although the essays reinforce one another, and reflect a common set of underlying concerns, each one-with the exception of the introductory essay with which the book begins-develops a substantial line of argument in its own right. Moreover, in spite of the common emphasis on Kant, they range over a wide deversity of topics. There is thus no one thesis or argument which the book can be described as developing. Instead, there are several interconnected lines of thought, each with sufficient power and persuasiveness to deserve its own detailed commentary.
