This article present the research report on the combination of reading log, and structure which is comprised in a portfolio for teaching writing I. The research carried out in one semester, from January 31 to June 13, 2006. It shows the process oriented approach that is taken into consideration as a means of teaching academic "Writing I". It has designed and implemented at Widya Mandala University in Surabaya.
