Failed smoking cessation attempts are often due to withdrawal symptoms caused by nicotine addiction. Varenicline is an a4B2 nicotine acetylcholine receptor partial agonist with dual agonist and antagonist activities that reduces not only the craving and withdrawal symptomps, but also the rewarding and reinforcing effects of smoking. Its efficacy has been proven in large clinical trials.
