Isi artikel
In light of the present and projected growth of our aging populations, it is vital that the U. S. and Japan join forces in conducting research and instituting policies which will better serve not only the elderly, but the population as a whole. while Japan and the U. S. have differing cultural attitudes towards the elderly, both countries are reexamining the role of the elderly in society. It is clear that much comparative research needs to be done in the areas of changing current health care policies, attitudes towards the elderly and the aging process, as well as movements to empower the elderly. As geriatrics becomes an increasingly important field of medical and social study, Japan and the U. S. have much to learn from each other in preparing for our changing societies.
