"Love as a Moral Emotion" is an attempt on J. David Vellman's part to assemble elements of moral philosophies of Iris Murdoch and Immanuel Kant into account of love. Kant was one Murdoch's targets, and so Vellman's attempt to appropriate bvoth figures at once should strike historically minded readers as surprising; in her definitely non standard lexicon, Kant counted as an existentialism" was her label for what had gone wrong with the mid-twentieth century way of thinking about morality
