Isi artikel
Ironically, though the philosophy of art emerged initially as part and parcel of Plato's ethically motivated criticism of art, the ethical criticism of art has received scant attention from analytic philosophers for most of of twentieth century.Influenced by Kant's aesthetic theory, especially as that interpreted (or misinterpreted) by sebsequent movements-including, for example, aestheticism ("art for art's sake") and formalism- and ostensibly reinforced by certain consequential critical practices (such as the New Criticism with respect to literature), many twentieth-century philosophers of art have not only neglected the topic of the ethical criticism of art; many have regarded the ethical criticism of art as either irrelevant or conceptually illegitimate.
