Isi artikel
This study uses the practice perspective of strategy to examine the strategizing process that is taking place in a sample of eleven Philippine family-owned businesses, focusing especially on three questions: who are the key players in the formulation of strategy, where do their discussions of strategy take place, and what is the quality of their interaction? The results of this study were compared with the typology of potential strategists and strategic arenas in family bisinesses identified in an earlier study by Nordqvist and Melin (2003), and were found to be wholly consistent with it: the same informal structures were found to exist in family businesses in the Philippines, playing the same complementary role in the strategy process. Consistent with earlier studies, it was also found that issues of family dynamics influenced the entire process in the Philippines, oftentimes overriding more formal business issues.
