Isi artikelthyroid disease is more easily recognized, if the increased or decreased thyroid hormone secretion is accompanied by clinical synptoms. In cases with insignificant symptoms laboratory examination is essential to make the diagnosis. Laboratory examination is also useful to monitor therepeutic progress and to detect thyroid dysfunction that is caused by non-thyroidal illness. Thyroid function can be evaluated by measuring the levels of total T4 and T3 as well as free T4 (FT4) and free T3 (FT3). TSH sensitivty (THSs) has more diagnostic significance than the FT4 level, since it can detect mild thyroid dysfunction. Antithyroglobulin antibody, thyroperoxidase antibody (antimicrosomal antibody), and Thyrotropin Stimulating Hormone-Receptor Antibody (TSHR-Ab) examinations are indicated for autoimmune disease.
