Isi artikel
Water hardness is caused by metalic divalent cations, calium and magnesium are the principal hardness-forming constituents. Lime softening process is a chemical precipitation process forming CaCO3 and Mg (OH)2 precipitants. However, colloid particles are also formed in these precipitants. Sodium aluminate (NaAlO2) is an alkaline coagulant that also acts as a addition of this coagulant in the lime softening process helps in the formation of Mg(OH)2 flock. This can be removed from water through sedimentation, and reduces magnesium's hardness in water. Also, as a softener, sodium alluminate can reduce calcium hardness in water.
