With increase of age, there are a number of physiological Changes that affect the health care and drug use of the human body. Changes in body fat percentage as well as lean body mass decrease, hepatic metabolism and renal elimination capacity are of particular clinical significance. It is important to consider these changes when chosing drug therapy for elderly patients to minimize adverse effects and maximize potential benefits. This literature review discussed physician prescribing habits, drug use patterns among elderly patients and the role of pharmacists in pharmaceutical care. Research and drug firms are closely dependent on each other, and may affect physicians through education, scientific journals, and may affect physicians through education, scientific journals, and advertisements. These are tailored according to physician personal charabteristics, work and therapeutic opportunities, and patients demans and expectations. Drugs given to elderly patients are cerdiovasculer agents, non steroid inflemmatory drugs, antiarthritics. ati-spasmodics, vasodilators and diureticts, hypotensives and multivitamins, sympathomimetics, and anti-diabetic drugs. Research indicates that prescriptions written for the elderly contain at least one precription-related problem such as over or under dosage, drug interactions, duplications, andinappropriate drug schedule. Pharmacists are requested to accept full professional responbility. This is to ensure optimal therapeutic outcomes from quality services provided to patients and other healt professionals,
