Isi artikelIncreasing restriction on sludge disposal the past decade have led to heightened concern for adequate sludge disposal practices. In Indonesia, discharge of sludges to surface water was the most prevalent means of disposal, with 80 to 90 percent of all utilities disposing of sludge in this manner. With restrictions on discharge to surface water, the water utilities have turned to landfilling as the ultimate sludge disposal method. The disposal ofliquid or semiliquid sludges at sanitary landfills is becoming increasingly more difficult, and the costs of landfill disposal are also continuing to rise. As a result, more attention must be paid dewatering sludge prior to disposal. Dewatering creates sludges with a more readily accepted by landfill operators. More significantly, dewatering greatly reduces the volume of sludge to be transported and disposed of, and thus offers the potential for significant cost savings to the water utility. This paper is describe the alternatives of dewatering mechanic that could reduce the water contents from alum sludge and produce a material that is suitable for convenient disposal therefore will saving the disposal cost and reduce the landfilling problems.
