Isi artikel
Communication is a reality for the society. The communication patterns develop in the forms of the society's situations and conditions. As the modern society cannot live without the existence of mass media, it makes it interesting to study the relation between mass media and the society. Language as one of the cultural products of a a society is used in presenting individual experiences in a cultural and geographical community. It is interesting to see how a language is used to present a reality to its audience for Shapir Whorf says the world that we know is in fact determined by the language and mass media know very well about this. Philippines is the object of the research as the nation is multilingual - besides English, Tagalog and Philippino are used as the formal communicative languages. There are also some local languages that the society and the media use. Media that use English are more popular sources of information while those that use Philippino are popular for entertainment.
