Jakarta: Graduate School of Applied Linguistics, Atma Jaya University, November 2001The aim of this study is to find out performances in English language learning, especially in learning the four skills of English (Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing). This is an ex-post facto study held at the Faculty of Letters, Gunadarma University. This study involves students of the Academic Year of 1996/1997 who took the 14 learning subjects: Listening Comprehension 1, 2, 3, 4, Reading Comprehension 1, 2, 3,4, Speaking 1, 2, 3, and Writing 1,2, 3. The scores of the students from those subjects were being analyzed through One-way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) using a computer software of SPSS Version 9.0 The results of the analysis are there is no difference in gender performances in Listening Comprehension 1, 2, 3, 4, Reading Comprehension 1, 2, 3, 4, Writing 1, 2, and Speaking 2, However, there is a difference in gender performances in Speaking 1 and 3 and Writing3. It can be concluded that actually females and males have no difference in English language learning, except for some subjects that relate to communicative skills, such as Speaking and Writing. Females that habitually communicate more than males tend to show better result in speaking and writing |
