This study aimed to see the effects of vocabulary enrichment before reading on reading comprehension achievement of the third grade junior high school students. A quasi experimental study was employed in this study. A purposive sampling consisting of 90 students was then taken in the study. To detect the students” reading comprehension achievement a multiple choice reading comprehension test was used.. The study revealed that vocabulary enrichment before reading brings better effects on the students’ reading comprehension rather than questioning before reading does.. Further analysis on types of comprehension questions then revealed that vocabulary enrichment beforereading also brings positive effects on the students’ ability in answering the different types of reading comprehension questions (detail vocabulary, reference word, and main idea).
