Abstract
The punctuated equilibrium model of organizational transformation is applied to an employee-owned corporation. The theoretical framework of the punctuated equilibrium model provides the pattern for analysis of organizational activities and transformation. The five domains of organizational culture or core values, strategy, structure, power distribution, and control systems are developed through interviews, archival records, documents, and participant observation. This triangulation of methods resulted in identification of components of organizational culture and extrasystemic pressures not previously discussed. Extrasystemic pressures of CEO succession and changes in market breadth are reported as opportunities that significantly increase the likelihood of revolutionary transformation. Revenue is proposed as an appropriate measure of organizational performance, and reorganization of internal structure is demonstrated as an indication of change in control systems.
