If we want to create an orthography for a previously unwritten language, there are several things that must be first considered. We must ask first the reasons and who would be using it. We can then begin to select the most suitable letter symbols for the phonemes in the language and the best way to represent the words, morphemes, and other morphological processes. This paper is to present the orthography for the languages in Alor regency. The orthography is based on the concept that each choice must be phonemically and morphophonemically motivated with diacritics being avoided. The guidelines for choice must include functions and/or meanings, not just phonology, and that a morpheme should be written consistently. The orthography should also be similar to the orthography of Indonesian; all choices must be supported by the native users.
