Isi artikelFor Indonesian children, especially those who live in a big city like Jakarta, both the standard and colloquial styles of Indonesian are used. Although they first acquire the colloquial style, they sometimes also use the formal style which is used in some television programs and stories in books. Jakarta children are likely to mix the standard and colloquial Indonesian in their conversations and imaginary plays. They mix the registers lexically and morphologically. Although the mixing shows their confusion about the use of the appropriate affix in some words, it shows that they are aware of the different registers in different contexts.
