Besides word borrowing, Indonesian also borrows phrases in the form of conceptual metaphors. We can in fact say that one of the reasons why we borrow words is that because we borrow conceptual metaphors, especially from English, which are to be differentiated from linguistic metaphors. The present paper is to raise our awareness that conceptual metaphors are just as important as word borrowing as the former shape our conceptual structure. Many traditional conceptual metaphors in Indonesia have been replaced by conceptual metaphors coming from English. This is due to the Influence of Western science and technology.
