Isi artikel
Mitotic activity of pterygium fibrovascular is higher than bulbar conjunctival. this mitotic activity is up-regulation by Proliferating Cell Nuclear Antigen(PCNA). There is no study of PCNA expression on pterygium tissue. The objective of this study was to determine whether there is an increasing of PCNA expression in pterygium tissue and its correlation with the grade of pterygium. this study was cross sectional study. Samples were collected from pterygium surgery from Septe,ber-Desember 2005 at dr. Saiful Anwar General Hospital Malang and then underwent imunohistochemistry examination at Biomedical Laboratory Medical FAculty Brawijaya University. There were 33 sample diveed in 3 groups : bulbar conjungtival group as control group, pterygium grade 2 group and pterygium grade 3, 4 group (each group has 11 sample). Cells with increase PCNA expression were counted using light microscope in 1000 x magnification. The imunohistochemistry examination was performed by the researcher and an observer that were blinded towards sample grouping. A total of 33 samples were selected from 39 patients (13 male and 20 female). Mean age of patients was 44,55 ± 13,16 years. PCNA were abundantly expressed in pterygium tissue, whereas minimal expression were found in bulbar conjungtival tisuue (p<0,05). Also there was a significant correlation between PCNA expression with grade of pterygium (p<0,05).
