Isi artikelmagnetic-containing activated carbons (MAC) were synthesized using paper towel as carbon sources and FeCl2.4H2O as magnetik precursor. MAC was prepared by combaining the structural properties of carbons with a framework containing metal structures.Five types of MAC were carbonized at 400 degree C and activated at 400 degree C, 500 degre C, 600 degree C, 700 degree C for one hour. The samples were characterized by nitrogen sorption, XRD, and FTIR. The surface structures are the BET surface area and total pore volume of MAC increased as the temprature increased. Actived carbon (AC) has ZRD peaks, which evidences an amorphous carbon framework. The XRD patterns for the MAC show that this material consist of an organized magnetite with the carbon embedded in its structure. The FTIR spectrum of MAC shows that carboxyl groups decreased as the temprature increased. Absoprtion bands of MAC shows the stretching and torsional vibration modes of the magnetic Fe-O bond in tetrahedral and octahedral sites, respectively. The electrical conductivity studies showed that MAC has the maximum conductivity at 400 degree C and further increasing the temprature would result in a decrease of electrical conductivity.
