This paper is intended as an effort for learning to solve the problems associating with the hydraulic system design on a pressing machine. On the final trial of a hydraulic press with a design capacity "300 tons", which designed and made in a manufacturing company in Yogyakarta, was found that performance of the press is still not fulfill the requirement. Based on observation in field practice and simple recalculation, they were indicated those: the limiting of pump capacity and particularly the power of motor used made the maximum theoretic capacity of the press is about 190 tons; the high temperature on drive system when the upper ram is lowered due to the high pressure in main cylinder; the improperly relative position of the prefill valve (as main supplier of hydraulic oil into the main cylinder when a ram lowered) to the position of the reservoir and the present of a counter balance valve without the fast forward cylinders made the prefill valve function not optimum, so the ram motion be slower.
