Pterydophytes is a group of vascular plant that has overlapping characters because of the influence of both inbreeding among species in the group and the surrounding environment. Tradisional taxonomy by a morphological approach often times cannot find a gap between these species so that it is difficult to place on the taxonomy level. Cytotaxonomy is another alternative and discussed in this article.
