Isi artikelThree years ago the Economist asked who the world best central banker is, and the reply it gave was not Alan Greenspan, then chairman of the US Federal Reserve Board, but Bank of Japan Governor Fukui Toshihiko. At the time the BOJ was pursuing the monetary policy known as quantitative easing amid lingering fears of a deflationary spiral in Japan, and economists generally agreed that Fukui was providing the economy with appropriate stimulus, including flexible use of nonsterilized intervention in the foreign exchange market.
