Theory of Constraints (TOC) explores constraints and how they interact with an organization’s goals. Internal constraints (bottleneck) are usually capacity limitations of work centers, or management operating policies that limit the output of a facility. Time buffers of inventory are located at constraints to ensure 100 % utilization. Transfer lot size thet are frequently smaller than process lot sizes are used to overlap operations and synchronize the product flow rate. Maximizing the throughput per unit (gross profit per unit)of scarce resource is the foundation of TOC.
