Group characteristics and cultural “belongings” are found in any country where immigration occurred, as has been the case in the United States. These ethnic markers include race, physical characteristics, language, religion, customs, values, and an intense sense of pride and normalcy of their country of origin. Although immigrants desire the benefits that exist in America, whenever possible, they share that which is most familiar with their new country mates. We see some examples as we experience varied architectural designs in older cities, when we observe friends, acquaintances, and patients and their families dealing with day-to-day life. The United States is a wonderful place to observe ethnic markers from all corners of the world and how apropos for us to be referenced as the melting pot for we are just that, a societal extravaganza of customs, values, and characteristics.
