Isi artikel
This column provides legislative answers to a problem discussed several issues ago about the nursing shortage in the United States. The Patient Safety Act of 2001 has been introduced in both the Senate (S. 863) and House (H.R. 1804) in May of this year and requires any Medicarecertified provider to publicly report their staffing levels, outcomes to care, and complaints to the government. In turn, the government will provide public access to this information, allowing health care consumers the opportunity to make more informed decisions about choices of providers. There is not one among us who would argue that this law’s intent is noble. This column addresses several important issues relative to appropriateness and application of this pending legislation. The text of the legislation follows.
