Aprevailing bias about functional diversity is evident in our society. Every day, in every walk of life, preference is shown for “the norm” or “the whole.” As a result, prejudice arises in our thoughts and actions toward those who are different. Ironically, this discrimination is not caused by the disability itself but rather by the perceptions and thought processes of others who enjoy the full potential of a functioning mind and body. The following vignettes are true and represent the challenges faced by individuals with functional differences.
