The explosive growth of information sources on the Internet is knowledge with great potential value. With the rapid growing of the Web, it is important to provide tools for efficient and effective discovery of resource and knowledge on the Web. Eventhough search engines are able to discover and to search the information, sometimes a tool that is able to take the content of a web page is needed. This research aimed to produce a prototype of an agent to extract web data, the exchange rate, that would give other alternative to the user. This research was started with the searching process for information about agent and web technology. Based on that information, a predesign of an agent was made and implemented. After several redesign steps, the best design uses three software tools, the Java language, Microsoft Access 97, and ASP (Active Server Pages). The research done so far has resulted in a design and an agent prototype for extracting Web data, in this case the rupiah exchange rate to US Dollar. The program, which is invisible to the user, can take Web documents from various sources simultanously. From those documents the program extracts the exchange rate of rupiah to US Dollar and stored in a database. The database can be accessed via WWW by a user for analysis or making a decision.
